This advanced level course is based on the NFPA 1006 Technician Level JPR’s for rope rescue. These JPR’s (job performance requirements) depart from the NFPA Operations Level by empowering practitioners with individual skill to perform a wide spectrum of vertical, diagonal and horizontal rescue maneuvers. While the Operations level generally assigns ground based tasks such as anchor building, haul system construction and patient packaging to rescue personnel, Technican level represents capability to operate vertically as an individual rescuer and team leader. This skillset will train rescue personnel to execute a variety of pick-offs (from the ground and from above), off-sets (also known as deflections), skate block systems and advanced guiding lines along with horizontal systems with track lines and reeving lines. Our Technician level course also incorporates key skills identified in the SPRAT Level 1 syllabus to create Technicians with an advanced ability to operate vertically with greater confidence and efficiency

    Advanced Skills Taught

    • Advanced anchoring techniques including floating and spanned anchors

    • Remote anchoring systems. Pull-through/retrievable anchors for creating both fixed and mobile lines ordinarally out of reach

    • Advanced AHD systems including gin poles, A-frames and davits

Courses will take place out of our training facility in Bellingham Washington with most days taking place indoors. Field days should be expected and will require clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.

Our approach to instructing is to maximize the students operating equipment and various rescue systems while being allowed to make mistakes in a controlled and supervised manner. We place an emphases on developing strong communication and critical thinking skills during our technical rescue courses and focus our pedagogy on developing repeatable skillsets at every level. Course participants can expect to rotate through leadership roles while being challenged to perform and direct the individual JPR’s outlined within the NFPA standards.
